Lourdes Sukari is an artist, photographer, and digital marketing and curation specialist from Warren, Ohio, that is the genius behind The Artifact Magazine. She is currently based in Atlanta, Georgia, after studying at The Art Institute of Atlanta for Film & Video Production. While she never initially planned to be a photographer, she grew an appreciation for it after co-shooting an event known as “The Influencers Present.” After working as a Video Producer, Lourdes eventually headed in a more entrepreneurial direction after being laid off, and that’s what gave rise to The Artifact.
The Artifact is a project that focuses on visual documentation in the form of images of various types of artists. These artists include visual artists and independent musicians. While most of her subjects are from Atlanta, she has also included artists from different parts of the world.
The path to creating The Artifact was not a particularly smooth one, especially due to her critical approach to her own work. Nevertheless, she limited the self-made comparisons with other photographers’ work and persevered, and now her magazine has started to gain a place in the limelight. The success of the magazine and its beautiful ability to capture other artists’ stories made her want to expand the project to a radio show. This radio show allowed her to speak to artists and gain their insights on their work, their respective industries, and art itself. She named it The Artifact Radio.
One of the reasons why Lourdes Sukari chose to create The Artifact Magazine was that she had intrigue and passion for exploring the possibilities of merging music and visual storytelling together. The combination of the two she achieved by capturing musicians during their work and showing a unique side of them to viewers.
Her photographs showcase interesting stories because none of them are of artists posing. Instead, she captures them going about their business of creating, performing, or presenting their art. As a result, her documentation showcases an exquisite level of authenticity and liveness. She makes sure that every picture that goes into her magazine is an exhibition of an emotion or feeling, such as happiness, doubt, success, freedom, vulnerability, and struggle.
She believes that is what makes her work unique and what manages to successfully grab and maintain people’s attention to her work. The images are raw and uninhibited, replicating real life, which can possibly give viewers insight into how other artists are so similar to every other person in many ways.
Alongside her photography work, Lourdes Sukari is also a digital marketing specialist. Her success in that arena has also come from her ability to capture authentic representations of a brand, making them more relatable and appealing to potential customers.
It is always a treat to see one artist helping other artists grow through their own art. That and the great quality of her work is why we want to see more of Lourdes Sukari’s work in various types of media.
