MEET EASHA
EASHA, born Easha Nandyala, is a music artist, TikTok star, and student at Stanford. As a twenty-year-old college student, her music represents that time in life—the experience of coming of age. At the same time, there’s also a hint of nostalgia in her work. What’s interesting about that, however, is that it’s a sense of nostalgia for a life that EASHA wishes she had. It is a form of romanticism that is also the most storybook in its expression. The liberties EASHA has taken to craft and communicate those stories through her lyrics showcase an almost unbridled level of creativity.
This creativity in her compositions' lyricism, arrangements, and overall musicality is evident in just about any track you choose to listen to. There’s no doubt that even though her music may come off as something that appeals only to a specific type of crowd, there is evident skill involved in all her creations. She has crafted her songs with careful attention to melodies and rhythm to create emotionally poignant pieces. Of course, her incredible vocals also add to the overall experience for listeners.
EASHA’s command over various musical elements to create substantial works of this art form has a lot to do with her upbringing. Even though her debut release, a track called I Can’t Breathe, was in 2020, she wrote her very first song when she was only twelve. She owed that feat to her parents. After immigrating to New Jersey from India in the ‘90s, they created a musical environment for their child, where she was exposed to it, could experience its beauty in emotional expression, and simply enjoy what it had to offer.
This helped EASHA develop a fascination with singing; she used to sing long before writing her first song. However, her ability to sing and the encouragement at home helped her acquire the confidence to put words to a melody at that young age. EASHA continued to develop this skill over the years, of course, and now as an artist in her twenties, her skill in encapturing messages and stories in her songs is evident to her listeners.
Her popularity and the way her work has resonated with people are also exemplified by the number of plays and listeners she has garnered on streaming platforms. On Spotify alone, the artist had over 291,000 monthly listeners when this article was written. In addition, she also has songs with total plays well into the millions, with her track Far Away at the top with 6.6 million plays.
EASHA is also intelligent with her music promotion tactics. She used the creative platform TikTok to promote her own music, as it allowed her to reach a wider audience, filled with listeners who would particularly like the art she was creating. With that said, she hasn’t yet released anything in 2022, and we’re looking forward to what she has in store for us.
