HVN
HVN is a twenty-three-year-old rapper, brand owner, and event curator from Houston, Texas. At such a young age, the artist, who prefers not to reveal his name, has achieved several milestones despite facing innumerable challenges along the way.
He has spearheaded the infamous movement in Houston called 'Don’t Die.' He came up with the name for the movement when he was only fifteen and was diagnosed with sickle cell anemia. By that time, he had already suffered from two strokes. After experiencing such near-death experiences, HVN wanted to make a change in the world and revive the music scene in the city.
Houston is the third-biggest city in the country and where some of the biggest artists, like Beyoncé, have come from. Yet, the music scene in the city did not reflect that. With his ‘Don’t Die’ brand, HVN was determined to change that. He had thus begun to host parties, concerts, and music performances specifically for the youth in Houston. Instead of advertising it on social media, the young brand owner chose the old-fashioned method of advertising his movement through word of mouth.
Now, after a couple of years, HVN’s movement has gained significant momentum. So many stars, such as BBY Kodie and the band Fade Em All, have become famous through performing at Don't Die movements. In fact, HVN is now the right-hand man for BBY Kodie and helps him record, produce, and release music.
After the Don’t Die movement got big, HVN returned to his roots and began producing his own music. In 2020, he finally released his debut EP, “Welcome to Heaven.” Featuring seven songs, the EP is truly a masterpiece of music that is a blend of rap, hip hop, lo-fi, and electric music. When you listen to it, you have no doubts about the talents of this young star. Despite falling sick every now and then, HVN will be opening for Brockhampton’s North American tour.
After his debut EP, HVN received multiple co-signs from big names in the music industry, such as Brockhampton MC Kevin Abstract and Tyler, the Creator associate Taco Bennet. Some people also regard him as the next big superstar coming out of Houston. It is clear that HVN's path for the future is bright, considering his talent and producing excellent music and his determination to make Houston a city brimming with music and talent.
His single, called Draco, shows that HVN will likely continue dropping music in the future while performing live. This single was made long before he released his EP, but he released it afterward. While HVN will always be known for the Don't Die movement, he hopes that fans also recognize him for the music he creates.
The Houston-based rapper is truly one to watch out for. He is a natural go-getter brimming with ambition, yet he stays humble as ever due to his past. He hopes to achieve much more in the future and will certainly not let his health come in the way regardless of how difficult it will be. HVN has and will certainly continue to make an impact on the Houston music scene.
