MEET TSHA
London-based DJ and producer, TSHA is quickly climbing the charts as an exciting new producer. She is a self-taught writer and producer. She was inspired to begin producing after witnessing the rich history of Berlin's electronic music and club scene. The artists who influenced her work include Jon Hopkins, Bonobo, Four Tet, and Floating Points.
She released her first EP 'Dawn' in 2018, which caught the attention of many, including Bonobo. The chain reaction to the album got her residencies, guest spots, and a deal with the record label Ninja Tune.
She debuted in 2018 with her EP Moonlight and signed with Counter Records under the label of Ninja Tune. Moonlight earned praise from numerous artists like Bonobo, radio support, and critical acclaim from many publications, including Billboard. After her EP Moonlight, TSHA released the single 'Sacred.' Her inspiration Bonobo featured the new single in his 2019 Fabric Presents mix.
Teisha Matthews, TSHA, is an open format versatile DJ. She has hosted monthly shows on radio stations, including Worldwide FM and Rinse FM. Her popularity continues to rise in clubs and festivals across the UK. Her sets at the iconic Printworks club in London towards the end of 2019, the Warehouse Project's 2019 season, and the Reading and Leeds festival were exciting, garnering the attention of many.
The electronic multi-instrumentalist DJ TSHA has been commissioned to make remixes for names including Foals, Throwing Snow, Prospa, and Lianne La Havas. The year 2020 for TSHA began with a remix of Millie Turner's 'January,' after which she released the two singles, 'Sister' and 'Change.' She included both singles in the Flowers EP in 2020. TSHA wrote Sister after she learned she had an older half-sister from her estranged father. The song expresses her feelings of meeting and getting along with a new family member.
Her Flowers EP features the Malian group 'Trio da Kali' on her fourth track, 'Demba.' She had fallen in love with the tone and emotion of Malian music. The group's vocalist, Hawa Kassé Mady Diabaté, was suggested to her by a music professor.
TSHA grew up with musical influence all around her. She grew up watching her older brother DJ and her Skrillex-loving single mother's stories about the raves in the '80s. She dropped out of her university degree in urban dance and bought a basic DJ setup.
TSHA's music was described as the next major presence in the electronic scene by NME, who named her in The NME 100: Essential new artists for 2020. Billboard, Mixmag, DJ Mag, and BBC R1's Pete Tong have suggested her as one to watch.
The four-track EP 'Flower' and her collaboration with NIMMO in 2021 on the 'OnlyL' EP have expanded her fanbase to enjoy her emotional club bangers. Her 'Jackfruit Radio' show on Apple music premieres exclusive tracks, DJ mixes, and recommends rising artists. TSHA blends rich electronic textures, tribal rhythms, and house dance music to create a euphoric experience and leaves her listener excited for more of her releases.
