Binki: One To Watch

Genre blurring movements of the last decade or so have witnessed the birth of several artists, and the latest addition to it is the Pennsylvanian rapper, Binki. The world has seen many musicians turning away from commercial success to focus on what truly matters to them when it comes to music. Following the same tradition, Binki likes to create his own trends instead of being a product of a massive brand.

The Pennsylvanian musician incorporates a DIY approach in his music and tries to make sense of his work by combining elements of dance, pop, R&B, hip hop, and so on. His discography is representative of him as a person, more than anything else he has ever associated himself with. Even though there aren't many songs to his name yet, whatever he has created so far is unique and incomparable.

His official debut single "Heybb!" was released in 2019 after going through several demos. The song is a classic example of how the singer likes to play with indie, pop, hip hop, and other elements. Moreover, its classic dance beat is full of flavor and energy, making it stand out from the mainstream music out there.

Since Binki was born to Kenyan parents in Pennsylvania, his work is highly inspired by Black hip-hop and incorporates melodies inspired by Jimi Hendrix, Kanye, and Andre 3000. However, he was not in the music scene consistently as he studied acting and performed in Carolina, following which he drifted back to music again.

Binki has a way with his lyrics and overall music production that somehow illustrates his love for mixing and blending. His work sells without even trying as he makes every single rhythm his own. This could also be because of his acting and drama background, as he has learned the art of embracing different roles. He describes his feelings about performing in the following words:

"While plays are mostly production, performing is what gets me high."

He explained that the beginning of his pop career was an accident when he started writing songs and learning the guitar in his spare time. He also made a debut on Spotify in 2018 with his single called "Marco." It was one big reason Binki drifted away from acting and decided to pursue a career in music.

Nonetheless, the music industry certainly gained from the theatre's loss. So far, Binki has established himself as a bold musician who defies categorization through his work and lets it be as real as possible. He also signed to FADER, a renowned New York-based label. In 2020, Binki was rightfully given the title of one of the most exciting pop talents.

With the rising temperature in the world of music and the world in general, he hopes to create more music by making fluid and gloriously carefree pop songs for his audience. His potential as an amateur is unmatched, and his work speaks volumes of what he can achieve in the future.
