Joining a wave of sex-positive singers, Ghanaian singer-songwriter-producer Amaarae isn’t eager to stick to one genre, instead, mixing musical styles to create a sound unique to her. The singer’s six-track EP Passionfruit Summers earned her recognition from Apple Music, which named her Africa’s Favorite New Artist in April 2018 and a featured artist for Apple Music’s Beats 1. Ready to challenge institutions and norms through her music, Amaarae’s work has been compared to Nigeria’s alté scene. But in the coming months, she will be releasing her first proper full length with The Angel You Don’t Know, which doesn't have a set release date yet. Today, the project's first single was released and if it's any indication of what's to come, we're in for a treat.
