EXPLORING DIMENSIONS WITH MAYA HAYUK
Brooklyn based artist, Maya Hayuk, garnered fame for her incredible psychedelic work which infused Ukrainian crafts and geometry to create insanely wild masterpieces that make you stop and stare.
Currently in New York, Hayuk is a graduate of the Massachusetts College of Art and Design and produces art which is inspired from global creations like mandalas, chandeliers, holograms, views from telescopes, picture tests and the environment around her. Taking her art journey further to study in countries like Canada and Ukraine, she brought her international influences together to use a striking palette of color and bold strokes on large mediums.
In other words, Hayuk’s art depicts creativity on another level and is a massive depiction of the beauty and order of geometry.
Hayuk has also been very popular in the media industry and as a very sought after artist, she’s been commissioned for posters and album covers by artists like the Beastie Boys, Rye Rye, Bonnie Prince Billy, etc. She’s also been very active on projects like stage sets, photography and videos in the media industry for The Flaming Lips, TV on The Radio, Animal Collective and Seun Kuti, etc., making her a very popular artist to work with.
True to the eccentricity and vivaciousness that her art depicts, Hayuk has also curated exhilarating events like the Pour Off, held at the Monster Island. The event involves gallons of paint being poured down the roof to mark the finality of the project she was working on the property, and she is also the third woman to have her art and murals commissioned by Tony Goldman, the late and esteemed real estate developer and art impresario. She has also worked with Billabong to create some cool outerwear, too!
With her in-your-face art and psychedelic images, Hayuk’s art is an identification of the artist and her skill – it’s her identity. The strong brush stroke, the same color spectrum with blues, yellows and other vibrant colors, and the same visual trip that her art makes viewers take reflect Maya Hayuk’s personality.
Also known as a down to earth and hilarious person behind the apron, canvas and materials, Maya Hayuk reported that recently, she has been drawing inspiration from outer space, abandoned monuments, maps, bath salts, pizza, insomnia and aliens – the simple and the complex, the real and the unreal.
Super fun and unapologetically herself, Hayuk’s work is a visual trip for viewers – minus the LSD! Her solo exhibitions and commissions have been included in museums spread across Loss Angeles, Toronto, Maastricht, New York, Rio De Janiero and Chile.
Maya Hauk is an art treasure – a brilliant and wild artist and an environmental activist, she’s definitely destined for brilliance and we can’t wait for more.
